UTK Students Help Tailgaters Clean Up Their Act

Serving the community is a fundamental component of ethical leaders. The UT Knoxville StudentCPT chapter recently partnered with UT Recycling, an environmental campus group, to help tailgaters recycle during UTK’s home football game against the University of South Carolina.

StudentCPT members and friends joined together on November 7, 2015, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. with prevention/clean-up teams in the main tailgating areas on campus. These students were able to cover two large areas, providing recycling bags to tailgaters from both schools. Students also picked up and sorted discarded recyclables and rubbish.

Chapter President, Katie Redpath, said chapter members wanted to do this event because “One of the goals of UTK’s StudentCPT is to partner with other campus and community organizations that share similar visions and goals for ethical awareness and practices.”

This event served as a great opportunity to understand the amount of work groups put into assisting Knoxville’s campus, especially on big event days.

All of the participating students mentioned that it was a rewarding experience. The UT Knoxville StudentCPT chapter plans to continue partnering with UT Recycling with future events, and they are excited that they completed a successful community service day.
